The young men are obviously embarrassed- and that’s only natural. It takes some getting used to, CFNM. But it was common in classical antiquity. The myth of Diana and Actaeon describes the fate of a young hunter, rent asunder by his own hounds for failing to avert his eyes in the presence of the huntress Diana as she bathed in a stream. Men, on the other hand, were perforce naked at sporting events. In the ancient Olympics, nude was the official uniform. And, yes, there were girls in the bleachers (though not married women), cheering on their favorites and crowding the racecourse to see their nostrils flare and their testicles bounce like high-spirited stallions. As for the girls, the competed in demure tunics. Sorry, guys.
All in all, not a bad time to be a girl. Perhaps not coincidentally, it was a time of learning and scientific progress.

The final episode where they finally earn their right to be considered gladiators and enter the arena and fight man-to-man until the finish is the best! Even though they aren't naked. In Ancient Rome of course the fights would have been to the death - but, even in todays reality tv, they aren't going to go that far to entertain their audience! Although on second thoughts I think quite a lot people today would be quite up for it!!
This makes perfect sense; in classical antiquity, male athletes would often compete naked. However, female nudity was frowned upon, so whenever women did engage in physical activity they would be clothed. They may be lightly clothed for ease of movement and heat loss - offering similar benefits to them as full nudity does to the men - but they will still at least wear something covering their genitals and breasts. To do otherwise would be considered indecent. So, in other words, in classical antiquity sports was basically CFNM.
I'm glad this reality show aspired to be historically accurate.
